I keep my eyes always on the Lord. He is at my right hand. So,
I will always be secure.
Psalm 16:8 (NIRV)
When driving east
into the sun on a crisp fall morning, the windshield becomes foggy and it is hard
to see the road ahead. Looking in the side mirror, there is a beautiful view of
the road behind with all the fall colors. The desire is to keep looking back as
it is more beautiful but we need to keep looking ahead through the foggy
windshield toward the road. Eventually the windshield clears up and you can see
the beauty of the road ahead. If you continue looking back, you will end up in
the ditch or worse. It is ok to glance back occasionally to enjoy the view but you
need to keep your eyes looking forward toward the destination.
In the journey of
life and especially after the loss of a loved one, the road ahead looks kind of
foggy and hard to see where we are going. The view looking back is much more
appealing but just like when we are driving we need to keep looking forward. It
is ok to look back and remember the memories of time spent with our loved one
but we can’t keep our eyes there. We need to keep our eye on God, look forward
and he will help guide us through.
